DM Recruitment Shrewsbury welcomes new apprentice

This year DM Recruitment is welcoming apprentices to each of our regional offices in Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands, and Powys.

Each apprentice will get hands-on experience in the world of recruitment and will stay with their team for over twelve months, working towards a REC level 1 or 2 recruitment industry recognised qualification.

Over the coming months, we will be asking our apprentices to tell us what it’s like being part of the DM Recruitment team, and how they’re finding the fast-paced world of working in a recruitment agency.

First in the hot seat is Tillie-Mae, 17, who has been with the DM Recruitment Shrewsbury team as an Apprentice Resourcer for just over a month. She tells us what it’s like to be the team’s first ever apprentice.

How did you find out about the apprenticeship opportunity?

"Indeed – The job board where DM Recruitment posts all of their jobs. I saw the job post and instantly knew it would be a job I’d really enjoy."

What was your first day like?

"My first day was busy but good. I learned how to use systems and undertook the task of calling potential candidates and conducting telephone interviews. I was thrown in the deep-end and thoroughly enjoyed it!"

What are the DM Recruitment team like?

"The DM team are extremely supportive and help is offered in every task I do. We all have a laugh in the office and I look forward to getting to know everyone more."

Who’s the best tea maker in the office?

"Georgia. Although some staff members have specific ways they like their tea, so I’m not sure everyone would agree!"

What is a typical day like for you?

"A typical day at DM is very busy, there is always something to do and always something new to learn. Every day is different."

What are your tasks?

"My tasks are calling people who have applied for our jobs advertised on indeed, Monster and Job Site, as well as those who apply through our website. I ask them questions and then I am in charge of scheduling face-to-face interviews with our service coordinators.

"I add and manage data onto our in-house CRM system as well as ensuring that everyone that passes our interview stages is fully compliant by thoroughly checking people’s ID.  Additionally, I do many more general admin tasks, emailing, making phone calls, leaving messages, etc."

What skills have you learned so far/what do you hope to learn during your time here?

"I have developed my phone skills massively and I am now confident when talking to a multitude of people. I hope to develop my screening skills and learn what makes a good temporary worker."

What’s been the best part about your role/favourite part of the job so far?

"I enjoy doing phone call interviews and booking people in for interviews. It’s nice to talk to people from all different backgrounds and I enjoy hearing about peoples work history."

What’s the most challenging part of your role?

"The day is very busy, with lots of things happening at once. Although I can prioritise, it is sometimes difficult to ensure all jobs are completed by the time I have set myself."

Is there anything you’ve done in your role or learned about the recruitment industry that you weren’t expecting?

"I enjoyed learning about all the rules and regulations associated with recruitment. I didn’t know there were so many.

"I wasn’t expecting DM Recruitment to be such a busy environment, but everybody works very hard and it is a very rewarding job."

Do you know what you’d like to do as a career in the future?

"I would hopefully like to work my way up in the company gaining more experience and therefore more responsibilities along the way. I am excited about a job in recruitment."

How do you think this apprenticeship will help you in your career?

"I think DM Recruitment will help me in my career as they are very supportive with training and encouraging with me gaining an apprenticeship qualification. It is clear they want all staff to succeed and better themselves."

Thanks Tillie-Mae, and keep up the great work!
