As part of our work to support our community we have pledged to partner with four local charities over the next five years. We will be donating 1% of our gross profit between the charities and will increase our donations each year by 1% until we reach 5% in the fifth year.
The reason for choosing these charities is down to one simple fact - they support our local community with many of life's problems, which none of us would want to face alone.
We know that many of our own DM Recruitment community will be affected by the issues these charities deal with every day. We feel privileged to be in the position to give back to charities in our area, who are supporting and helping so many people in our community.
Before 1979 there were no cancer services in the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales area. The then Mayor of Shrewsbury, Bernard Lingen, decided to set up a fund to enable chemotherapy and radiotherapy services to be brought to the area for the first time. Today, all those years later, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund exists to make a positive difference to the lives of those affected by cancer in this area.
Naomi Atkin, Chief Officer at Lingen Davies said, “Through amazing efforts from across local communities, funds are raised that support the charity and those affected by Cancer in many ways: from Lingen Davies nurses being with a patient from the point of diagnosis throughout their treatment; scanners, scopes, cameras and other such medical equipment that helps with diagnosing and treating Cancer more accurately whilst lessening patient discomfort. Plus, the charity runs public awareness campaigns aimed at prevention and helping those that are living with and beyond Cancer too. On average, in 2019, 300 people a day visited the centre, with 3980 positive diagnoses of cancer, and this is set to grow as people live longer and populations increase too.”
The Movement Centre is an incredible local charity that supports children with movement disabilities. They provide a specialist therapy called Targeted Training, which they pioneered at the centre. The training can improve movement control and enable children to develop new skills to help them become more independent and improve how they can interact with friends and family.
Victoria Handbury-Madin, Chief Executive said, “The Movement Centre are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as a charity partner for DM Recruitment. We support children with movement disabilities, to help them to gain independence through our specialist therapy, Targeted Training. In 2019, due to cuts, we lost all NHS funding, which has been a huge challenge. DM Recruitment's pledge to support our work gives us the knowledge that we have secured some of our funding for the future, which is so important to us and the children we support.”
Shropshire Mind’s main objective is to empower anyone experiencing a mental health challenge. The services they provide across the county aim to support the one in four people, and their families, affected by mental or emotional distress. Their work includes a drop-in centre, open 7 days each week and group work based in Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Whitchurch, Bridgnorth, Market Drayton, Oswestry and Church Stretton.
Heather Ireland, Manager at Shropshire Mind said, “We help to bridge the gap between illness and full independence for service users. Some people need support in many areas of their lives, others in just a few. Respect for users, with justice and equality of access to services are part of our vision that everyone has the right to live equally with others and to enjoy a good quality of life. We try to enable service users to play the fullest possible part in the communities in which they live. We work in partnership with clients to ensure their right to make choices is preserved. We are also striving to reduce the debilitation, alienation, stigma and social isolation experienced by vulnerable people living in rural areas. This is the first time we have been supported by a company for 5 years, and we are very grateful to the team at DM Recruitment for their support.”
Shrewsbury Town in The Community is the official charity of Shrewsbury Town Football Club. The charity helps the people of Shropshire flourish by helping everyone realise their potential to achieve their goals. They aim to improve health and wellbeing, build stronger, safer communities, and create better life chances for everyone.
Jamie Edwards, CEO, said, “Our passionate team deliver over 35 projects every week across Shropshire. From our Soccer Schools providing a platform for our budding young footballers, Extra-Time Hubs helping to tackle active ageing, NCS making sure that everyone is given the chance to develop important life skills, and our Head's Up sessions providing a space for everyone to have each other's backs; we have a session for everybody. No matter your age, ability level, or goals, at Shrewsbury Town in the Community, we have a pathway for everyone. We are thrilled to have the support of DM Recruitment which will go to supporting the work we do across the region.”
